Allegheny Cleanways December Newsletter - International Student Volunteers to Clean Pittsburgh Dumpsites

Allegheny CleanWays has been excited to work with Masayuki Seki, an international student at the University of Pittsburgh English Language Institute, for the fall. Seki is from Japan and works in Saitama as a banker. He came to the United States in September to study English for three months. To practice his English skills with native speakers, Seki wanted to volunteer with a local organization. His search found Allegheny CleanWays and he has volunteered with us consistently from the beginning, putting in 35 hours.

Seki is very thankful for everything that he has been given during his stay here. He is thankful for his professors that teach him English, to his host family which feeds him and helps him understand American culture, and to many others. Seki thought he should use his energy as a young person to help clean Pittsburgh and found DumpBusters to be the outlet for that strength.

For the staff at CleanWays, working with Seki has proved to be a valuable experience. He comes to every DumpBuster event prepared to work hard whatever the weather or difficulty of the dumpsite. He’s worked in hot weather, cold weather, wet weather, and other weather that most people don’t want to walk outside in, but has never once complained. We want to thank Seki for his hard work and determination to better his host city. Allegheny CleanWays hopes that Seki’s experience here was beneficial and that he continues to have a successful life back home in Japan.
