Position: Part-time crew member (10-20 hrs/week) for the DumpBusters program; occasional evening and significant weekend work expected

Mission/Description of Organization:

Allegheny CleanWays is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization formed in 2000 to "engage and empower people to eliminate illegal dumping and littering in Allegheny County."

The Tireless Project

Tireless Project Logo

The Tireless Project is a collaboration of local organizations and businesses committed to the stewardship of Pittsburgh's waterways. Since its start in 2003, 4,873 volunteers have boarded our 28' pontoon boat, the Rachel Carson, and removed 644,464 pounds of debris, including 3,728 tires and 25,293 pounds of metal and other recyclables, from our riverbanks and streams.

DumpBusters on WTAE

Pittsburgh's WTAE Channel 4 has just aired a very nice article on Allegheny CleanWays' rapid response team, the DumpBusters. The crew of volunteers has been cleaning up dumpsites around the City of Pittsburgh for over six months now.

Hey buddy, can you spare a tire?

Citizens in the California-Kirkbride neighborhood and Allegheny CleanWays DumpBusters have just completed a cleanup on Morrison Street hilltop that extended down the hillside almost to Brighton Road.  The multi-day cleanup took place on Monday, November 8th, 15th and 22nd 2010.

The steep wooded hillside that starts at the top of Morrison St. and continues down to Brighton Rd., has over the years been a dumping ground for tires (many with rims), seats out of vehicles, windshields, radios and various car/truck parts. (Maybe from a garage?).

Thank you Altria!

We would like to thank Altria (Philip MorrisUSA) for making Allegheny CleanWays recent Tireless project a big success. On Thursday, August 6th Altria District Manager Eric Spivack brought 23 of his co-workers to the new marina/park in Sharpsburg for a day of river bank cleanup. A total of nearly 3 tons of trash and 10 tires were removed from the Allegheny River bank. A great day!
