Mission/Description of Organization:

Allegheny CleanWays is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization formed in 2000 to "engage and empower people to eliminate illegal dumping and littering in Allegheny County."

Illegal Dumping in Pittsburgh: Hazelwood and Hilltop Neighborhoods Study 2015-2016

 

In 2015 and 2016, Allegheny CleanWays completed a comprehensive assessment and clean up of illegal dumpsites in the Hazelwood, Beltzhoover, Allentown, and Knoxville neighborhoods of Pittsburgh. June Newsletter - Guest Article: Using Community Composting to Address Illegal Dumping in Stanton Heights by Mike Sturges

The current stewardship of the green space at the intersection of Stanton Ave. and Woodbine St. in Stanton Heights started with a compost pile.  When I purchased my house in Stanton Heights in 2009, I quickly found that I was in need of a way to responsibly address my yard waste.  I asked a neighbor what they did and was told to “wait until there aren’t any cars coming, carry it across the street and dump it over the hill in the greenspace”—the classic Pittsburgh answer.

Now that the holidays are over, it's time to take out the Christmas trees. Pittsburgh offers Christmas tree recycling through the Department of Public Works at four drop-off locations around the city. Please bring your tree with no lights, ornaments, or stands to these places from 8 am - 2 pm Monday - Saturday:
