Christmas tree recycling

Now that Christmas is over, you can get rid of your Christmas tree in a way that keeps giving back to the environment. Evergreen trees make great mulch and our City and County both welcome your used tree for recycling.

In the city, Pittsburgh’s Department of Public Works has announced four drop-off locations for residents who want to recycle their Christmas trees.

They will be collecting the trees until January 29th, Monday through Saturday from 8 a.m. until 2 p.m.

The drop off locations are:

  • The 2nd Division at North Dallas and Hamilton Avenues in Point Breeze (412)-665-3609
  • The 3rd Division at Melanchthon and Second Avenues in Hazelwood (412)-422-6524
  • The 5th Division at 1330 Hassler Street in the West End (412)-937-3054
  • The Environmental Services lot at 3001 Railroad Street in the Strip District (412)-255-2773

All ornaments, tree stands and lights must be removed from the tree for Public Works to take them.  Contact the Recycling Division at (412)-255-2631 for more information.

In Allegheny County, undecorated Christmas trees can be dropped off at the swimming pool parking lots in Boyce, North, Settler’s Cabin and South parks until January 22.
