Allegheny Cleanways January Newsletter - Unsung 68: DumpBusters at Work

The Pittsburgh Foundation is a community foundation that “works to improve the quality of life in the Pittsburgh region by evaluating and addressing community issues, promoting responsible philanthropy, and connecting donors to the critical needs of the community.” One of the Pittsburgh Foundation’s current initiatives is Pittsburgh on Video, which is a community-based online news site. Pittsburgh on Video connects local viewers with news from their neighborhoods and allows individuals to contribute their own stories.

The Unsung Nonprofit News Show is part of the Pittsburgh on Video news outlet and focuses on the activities of nonprofits around the city. Unsung contacted Allegheny CleanWays about making a short video about one of our programs. We had a film crew come to our DumpBuster worksite on Edgebrook Ave and make a great video (see time 7:55) about the realities of our work. Thanks to all who helped at the dumpsite and in the film-making!

Allegheny Cleanways December Newsletter - International Student Volunteers to Clean Pittsburgh Dumpsites

Allegheny CleanWays has been excited to work with Masayuki Seki, an international student at the University of Pittsburgh English Language Institute, for the fall. Seki is from Japan and works in Saitama as a banker. He came to the United States in September to study English for three months. To practice his English skills with native speakers, Seki wanted to volunteer with a local organization. His search found Allegheny CleanWays and he has volunteered with us consistently from the beginning, putting in 35 hours.
